This creamy mustard sauce with hints of white pepper is done in no time at all. If you love mustard, then this sauce which also has onions, garlic, butter is perfect for you. Add a bit of parsley and garlic chives for colour and some freshness and that's it! It's easy to make and can also be tweaked easily to suit your taste.
The sauce is a great addition to your staple sauces but is also great with these pork chops, boiled potatoes, or these smashed potatoes.
Ingredients
This sauce requires very little effort and also very few ingredients. It is also ready in no time, unlike this waakye stew which needs time to simmer and develop lots of flavour.
- cooking cream
- dijon mustard
- finely chopped garlic
- finely chopped onions
- butter
- parsley
- garlic chives
Substitutions
Here are a few substitutions you can make for this mustard sauce.
- Roux - if you dont have cooking cream you can make a roux (flour and butter/oil) and then add milk.
- Soya Milk - if you are lactose intolerant or do not drink regular milk, soya milk can be used instead of milk when you are adding this to the roux. The resulting dijon mustard sauce is not as creamy as the original but it is nevertheless tasty and makes for a great substitute.
- Garlic and Onion Powder - instead of using fresh garlic and onions, you can opt for garlic powder and onion powder.
- Vegetable Oil - Instead of sweating off the garlic and the onions in butter, you can use vegetable oil.
Variations
This creamy sauce lends itself to some variations.
- Herby - you can add in your favourite herbs to improve the flavour of this creamy mustard sauce. Some good herbs to add are rosemary or thyme.
- Spicy - If you like an extra kick, you can add any hot peppers of your choice be it green chillies, kpakposhito or scotch bonnets. If you want just a slight kick, in terms of heat, then you can add some black crushed peppercorns to this sauce.
