This is the easiest smoothie bowl you will make and it only requires a few ingredients. This banana, mango, spinach, and dragon fruit smoothie bowl is vegan, has no additional sugar, is creamy, and absolutely delicious.

I love smoothies. A few recipes you will love are this spinach and banana one, this beautiful turmeric smoothie or this very delightful mango moringa smoothie. They are so quick to make and you can't go too wrong with the process.
Like in my other smoothies recipes, I usually do not add any proteins or milk but you are free to do so if you need something extra in this smoothie bowl.

What is a smoothie bowl?
A smoothie bowl, as the name implies is in its basic form, a smoothie in a bowl. The difference between a smoothie and a smoothie bowl is that smoothies are drank with a straw, whereas you use a spoon for a smoothie bowl. In addition to that, smoothie bowls are usually topped with nuts, fruits or seeds.
Ingredients
For this recipe, a mix of frozen and fresh fruits are used to get a smooth and creamy, almost sorbet-like texture. You do not need to freeze your fruit however if you have them, even better. Half of the mangoes I had were frozen as well as the spinach leaves.
Mangoes, bananas, spinach and dragon fruit are the perfect combination, both tastewise and colourwise for this smoothie bowl.

If you can't get dragon fruit where you are, you can easily substitute it with some other fruit like a berry or any other fruit which is readily available to you.
I find that dragon fruit tastes like a cross between an unripe green pawpaw and a kiwi. But maybe that's just me.
How to make a smoothie bowl
The process is basically the same as making any regular smoothie. The only bit to remember is not to make it too runny. Remember - a straw for smoothies and spoon for smoothie bowls.
The first step is to chop up all the fruits. For the mangoes, I used a mix of frozen and fresh.
As this receipe is a two-colour smoothie bowl, half of the mangoes and bananas are blended with the dragon fruit and then the other half with the spinach.

Pour both the dragon fruit blend and the spinach blend into the opposite sides of a bowl to get this lovely-looking smoothie bowl.

Top with your favourite fruits, nut butters or nuts and enjoy.

Substitutions
Berries - If you also want a two coloured smoothie bowl and can't find dragon fruit, you can easily substitute with berries -strawberries, blueberries or blackberries.
Beets - if the colour of the smoothie bowl is really what you are going for, you can use beets. Just be wary that beets can sometimes have an earthy taste which isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Hibiscus petals - soak some of the petals in a bit of water and use the water to blend the mangoes and bananas. This will give your smoothie bowl also a reddish purple tinge.
Be aware that hibiscus petals can be tart so leaving them too long in the water and adding them to the fruits may result in a somewhat tart smoothie bowl. If your fruits are very sweet then you don't have to worry about this.
Also, do take note that if you add too much water, your smoothie bowl will end up being too watery. If your fruits are very sweet then you don't have to worry about this.

Storage
Enjoy this smoothie bowl immediately - there is no reason to prepare this ahead and store it in the fridge.
Easy Smoothie Bowl
Ingredients
- 2 medium mangoes
- 4 bananas
- 6 large spinach leaves
- 1 dragon fruit
Instructions
- Cut the dragon fruit into two and scoop out half of the fruit and chop. Leave the other half for garnishing.
- Chop the mangoes and bananas as well.
- Blend half of the mangoes and bananas with the spinach and set aside.
- Blend the other half of the mangoes and bananas with the dragon fruit.
- In a large round bowl, pour the dragon fruit blend and the spinach blend in opposite sides of the bowl, to get two distinct colours.
- Top with sliced apples, dragon fruit, or any other toppings of choice.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- Make sure not too add too much water if you are blending the fruits. Some fruits have a naturally high water content (like watermelons) and others relatively low (like bananas) so striking a nice balance prevents your smoothie bowl from being too watery.
