Smoothies have been the craze for a quite a while now and I too was obsessed at a point. I had them almost every day in all kinds of combinations. If you’re like me then you’ll keep your smoothies fairly simple. Fruit and water. Or vegetables, although I tend to generally keep vegetables out of my smoothies. A teaspoon of honey if the fruits aren't as sweet as I'd like them to be because I have a sweet tooth or ginger to pep up the smoothie. As far as fruits go, there are too many to list as favourites but mango is definitely in my top 3.

Larger mangoes tend to be less fibrous and optimal for making smoothies. For solely eating purposes, I do prefer the smaller more fibrous mangoes as they have a more intense sweeter taste. That is not to exclude them from the smoothie making party is something worth noting for whenever you make them.

Either way, mangoes are super delicious and whenever the smaller ones are in season,  I like to stick them in the freezer and once they are halfway frozen they make a great alternative to ice cream.  Just bite off the tip, and suck on the delicious chilled goodness. This is a super refreshing treat with less of the sugar found in traditional ice cream.

But now back to this mango, moringa and ginger smoothie. For this smoothie recipe, you will add fresh moringa leaves and a little ginger to the chopped mangoes. As luck would have it, there is a moringa tree in my house so it really is just a grab and go affair. This smoothie is a great energy booster and a perfect way to start the day.  This article is a great resource for the wonderful health benefits of moringa.

    Moringa leaves

As much as I love ginger (hint, hint the name of this blog) when it comes to smoothies, I do prefer it in small quantities with just enough to pack a punch. Overwhelming quantities of ginger in drinks just leave you with a burning sensation in your chest which I do not enjoy.  And there you have a gorgeous looking smoothie speckled with moringa leaves and a slight hint of ginger, a great way to start the day.
